This table is why the timeline above matters: being on the right side of one move through 3 is worth about four times the average half-point. If a line is going to move, everything depends on which number it moves through — and the market knows it too, which is why lines hesitate at 3 and 7 and skip freely across 5 and 9.

Honest limitations

  • The bundled log records closing lines only. Openers, move timing, and steam cannot be verified from our data — the movement examples on this page are labeled illustrations of the concepts, with invented percentages for teaching, not measured history.
  • Published RLM studies are mixed. Public bet-percentage feeds are noisy and books' self-reported splits are marketing as much as data; treat “fade the public when the line moves against them” as a hypothesis to test with your own tracked bets, not an established edge.
  • What is verifiable is the close itself: across 27 seasons the closing spread's average error is +0.09 points — effectively zero bias. Whatever path a line takes during the week, it tends to end up at a fair number, which is why beating the close (CLV) is the standard scorecard.
